New Delhi: England captain Ravi Bopara became the first batter in the history of Hong Kong Sixes 2024 tournament to smash six maximums in an over on Saturday. On the second morning of the league during the clash between India and England, Bopara smashed Robin Uthappa for six sixes in a single over.
After a slow start in the game, the onslaught happened in the fourth over of England’s innings, with scoreboard reading 36/0 in 3 overs. The English skipper tore into Uthappa, smashing five sixes of the first five balls of the over, after which Uthappa nervously bowled a wide delivery.
However, this did not break the rhythm of the fiery player as he smashed another six, sixth one in a row, off the last ball of the over to complete six maximums off as many balls. The English batter became the first player in the league to smash six sixes in a single over. Uthappa’s over was also the most expensive over of the ongoing edition. This onslaught proved fatal for India as they lost the match by 15 runs, with Bopara also clinching two wickets.
India crash out of Hong Kong Sixes 2024
India crashed out of the Hong Kong Sixes 2024 tournament after suffering their third consecutive defeat against UAE. India slipped to a one-run loss against UAE on Saturday after suffering defeats against England and Pakistan. The contest against UAE proved to be a close one as chasing 131, India needed 32 in the last over and came so close but unfortunately the last ball did not go in their favour.
All-rounder Stuart Binny tried to power the team to a win but failed. Binny struck a boundary on the first ball, the second one was a wide and then followed it with four maximums in a row bringing the equation down to three needed off one. While trying to attempt a second run on the final ball, he got run out after scoring 44 runs off just 11 balls.
