The Surya Tilak ceremony is a spiritual event which occurs once a year where the mirror and lense-based apparatus is used to channelise sunrays on the forehead of Lord Ram’s statue. This mechanism which is designed by Indian scientists, resembles a tilak which gives it the name Surya Tilak or Surya Abhishek.

A team of scientists from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, engineered the model wherein the sun rays fall on the forehead of Lord Ram’s idol at exactly 12 pm on Ram Navami day every year. The incident continues for about six minutes. A similar mechanism can be seen in other temples such as Konark Sun Temple, however, its design is engineered differently.
In view of the high rush in Temple and the banks of river Sarayu, the police have heightened the securing in the region. The authorities have made arrangements for the proper accommodation of devotees. Divisional Commissioner Gaurav Dayal stated, “ We have made arrangements for shade and mats at the major places of Ayodhya Dham, including Ram Temple and Shri Hanumangarhi Darshan Marg to protect devotees from the sun and heat.”
