Jammu: The Badhaal village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district has been declared a “containment zone” with strict measures enforced following the deaths of 17 people from three families in the past one-and-a-half months due to a mysterious health ailment.
This comes after Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Tuesday ordered health and police departments to take strict containment measures to avoid any more deaths in the remote village. The directions came during a meeting of district administration and health experts.
Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (previously CrPC 144) has been imposed in Badhaal village, prohibiting any private or public gathering or assembly of more than 4 people.
The houses where the deaths took place are being sealed and the entire village has been divided into three zones as authorities investigate the cause of death and the mystery illness.
Designated officials have been tasked to provide and monitor all meals being given to those living in the containement zones.
