Bhilwara: A stampede broke out in Bhilwara district, Rajasthan, during a religious event held by Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, head of Bageshwar Dham. The incident took place when people with VIP passes were denied entry to the event on Thursday.
As a result, there was a confrontation with the security personnel at the VIP gate, leading to a stampede-like situation. Six people, including women and children, were injured in the chaos.
Stampede at VIP gate
Banwari Sharan Maharaj, the patron of the event, accused the organizers of acting arbitrarily. He said that the committee mishandled the VIP pass distribution and did not follow proper procedures.
The event was organized under the leadership of Kathia Baba Ashram, but it is alleged that the committee ignored the Ashram’s head, Kathia Baba, and did not take his concerns into account. Maharaj also criticized the police and administration for their handling of the situation.
One of the injured person reveals her ordeal
Chandrakala Somani, one of the injured women in the Bhilwara stampede, shared her account of the incident. She said that despite holding a VIP pass, she was denied entry at the VIP gate to attend Baba Bageshwar’s Katha. According to Chandrakala, there were many people at the gate in a similar situation, leading to chaos and a stampede-like scenario.
She questioned why VIP passes were issued if there was no seating available and expressed frustration over not being able to attend the event. Instead, she ended up getting injured. She further said that the situation became so dangerous that they feared for their lives, and the policemen present at the scene were also reportedly misbehaving with the crowd.
