New Delhi: A shocking case of medical mix-up allegedly committed by doctors at Kota Medical College in Rajasthan has come to the fore. The doctors allegedly operated by mistake on the paralysed father of an accident victim in place of him.
According to reports, Manish, the actual patient, was admitted to the hospital after he met with an accident and sustained injuries. The surgery was to take place on Saturday. Before the operation, he called his father at the hospital for support, as there was no one else available to help him during his stay there.
Manish claimed that his father waited outside while he was being prepared for the surgery inside the operation theatre. But, after he came out, he saw 5-6 stitches on his father. He discovered that his father had been mistakenly operated on.
“I was inside the OT — I don’t know what happened, but now my father has 5–6 stitches on him,” Manish reportedly said. The patient also mentioned that he does not recall the name of the doctor who performed the operation.
Panel to investigate
Kota Medical College Hospital principal Dr Sangeeta Saxena has taken cognisance of the incident and has ordered a probe into the matter. “I have asked the superintendent to form a committee and submit a report within 2-3 days. They have formed a three-member committee… They will inquire and inform what happened,” she was quoted as saying by ANI.
