New Delhi: The Rajasthan government led by chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Saturay dissolved nine districts and three divisions during a cabinet meeting. The number of districts in the state now stands at 41 and divisions at seven.
The districts that have been done away with include Dudu, Kekri, Shahpura, Neemkathana, Gangapur City, Jaipur Rural, Jodhpur Rural, Anupgarh, and Sanchore. The divisions of Pali, Sikar, and Banswara have also been dissolved.
Gehlot govt had announced 17 new districts
This decision reverses the announcement made by the former CM Ashok Gehlot-led government, which had introduced 17 new districts and three new divisions last year. However, the new administration deemed the creation of these districts and divisions impractical, particularly as the state faced challenges of financial strain. The state government argued that forming these administrative units would place an undue burden on Rajasthan and was not in the best interest of the state.
Meanwhile, the districts of Balotara, Beawar, Deeg-Kumher, Didwana-Kuchaman, Kotputli-Behror, Khairthal-Tijara, Phalodi, and Salumber will remain.
