New Delhi: Rescue operations continued on Wednesday morning to save a three-year-old girl who accidentally fell into a 700-foot borewell in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district. It has been over 40 hours since the girl, Chetna, fell into the borewell and got stuck in it. The incident happened while the child was playing on her father’s farmland on Monday.
Rescue operations are being carried out by teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and other officials. However, they are facing significant challenges due to the narrow diameter of the borewell and the surrounding soil, which has become compacted from moisture.

Initially, officials attempted to save the girl using a hook attached to 10-foot iron rods, but this did not succeed. Efforts are also underway to pull her out using a locally made iron plate and a piling machine, which was transported from Haryana on Tuesday night.
NDRF in-charge Yogesh Meena said that they will dig up to a depth of 160 feet using the piling machine. “We are working with two simultaneous strategies – Plan A involves digging a 10-foot deep pit with a JCB near the borewell, while Plan B has us using the piling machine, which can dig up to 150 feet.”
Oxygen pipe to provide oxygen
An oxygen pipe has been sent into the borewell to offer oxygen to the girl, and four ambulances are stationed at the incident site. The NDRF official pointed out that the movements of the girl were captured on camera, and an oxygen pipe was sent into the borewell to supply oxygen to the girl.
It is believed that on Monday afternoon, the girl first fell into the borewell at a depth of around 15 foot. When her family members tried to pull her out, she slipped further down. Within a few hours, rescue teams from SDRF and NDRF in Jaipur began rescue operations.
On Saturday, the work on the borewell got over and the workers left it open, resulting in the accident.
