Udaipur: The authorities have deployed dozens of shooters in the Gogunda area of Rajasthan’s Udaipur after a total of seven people were killed by a man-eating leopard in recent times. These shooters have been deployed in the areas where the attack took place earlier.
Speaking to TV9 Network, sources said that two of these shooters have been placed near two cages that have been set up to catch the leopard. Notably, two other cages were also placed inside them. These shooters have been placed for 24 hours so that whenever a leopard comes into the case, it can be shot immediately. Earlier an order was issued by Pawan Kumar Upadhyay, Principal Chief Conservator of Rajasthan Wildlife Division, to kill the leopard as soon as it is seen. Authorities had also carried out search operations in forests around Gogunda on Tuesday, but the animal was not seen.
The search was carried out on Wednesday morning
Another search operation was carried out on Wednesday morning. This time too, authorities were forced to return empty-handed. Apart from twelve shooters, authorities deployed ten teams to search for the leopard. Divisional Forest Officers Ajay Chittor and Mukesh Saini also held a meeting with the villagers at Kelvin ka Kheda and Rathod ka Guda on the issue.
During the meeting, they appealed to the villagers for cooperation and asked them to stay indoors until the search operation was completed. The officers asked them not to venture alone in case of need.
Leopard kills woman on Wednesday
Earlier on Tuesday, a woman was killed by a leopard in the area. She was the seventh victim of such attacks in recent days. After the development, Rajasthan Wildlife Department officials said the leopard responsible for such incidents has “become a man-eater”.
