Sahibganj: In another sabotage attempt on a train, a portion of a railway track was blown with explosives by unidentified miscreants in the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand on Wednesday. The incident comes on the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects in the state’s Hazaribagh district.
National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), which operates this railway line to transport coal, was notified by people of the Ranga village in the morning about a section of the track being damaged from what looked like an explosion.
Police and railway officials arrived at the spot and found the track on the Lalmatia to West Bengal’s Farakka route was damaged due to an explosion that left a three feet deep in the ground. Broken pieces of the track were found several meters away from the spot.
No casualties were reported in the incident as a goods train moving on the route was stopped at police 42/2 in the morning as soon as the information about the explosion was received by the railway, officials said.
The explosion reportedly took place around midnight and around 470 centimeters of the track was damaged, police said, adding the motive behind the explosion is being investigated and whether the blast was carried out by Naxalites or some miscreants is also being looked into.
The incident comes in the latest of a series of attempts to derail trains across the country. A goods train derailed near Tupkadih in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, railway officials reported on September 26. According to the Bokaro Railway Protection Force (RPF), two wagons of the train derailed and overturned while passing between the Tupkadih and Rajabera sections on Thursday morning.
Around 300 kilometres away from the incident spot in Sahiganj, PM Modi addressed a public meeting in Hazairbagh and launched development projects worth Rs Rs 83,700 crore aimed at the development of tribal communities in the state.
