New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Monday hit back at criticisms from Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, saying that Gandhi’s fight is to save the Congress party while his fight is to save the nation. “Today Rahul Gandhi came to Delhi. He abused me a lot. But I will not comment on his statements. His fight is to save Congress, my fight is to save the country,” Kejriwal posted in Hindi on X.
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi addressed a public gathering in Delhi’s Seelampur, where he compared Arvind Kejriwal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing both of making empty promises. Gandhi said, “Arvind Kejriwal conducts his campaigns in the same manner as PM Modi. They both make promises they do not keep.”
‘Has Kejriwal fulfilled his pledge?’
He further criticised Kejriwal’s tenure, saying that the AAP leader has failed to eradicate corruption in Delhi. “Do you remember the state of Delhi when Sheila Dikshit was the chief minister? Arvind Kejriwal promised to cleanse Delhi of corruption. Yet, pollution and corruption persist. Has he fulfilled his pledge?” Gandhi asked
He also charged Kejriwal and Modi with neglecting the rights of backward communities, Dalits, tribals, and minorities. “Neither Prime Minister Modi nor Arvind Kejriwal addresses the issue of caste census. They do not want backward communities, Dalits, tribals and minorities to receive their due rights. We will ensure a caste census in Delhi once a Congress government is in place,” Gandhi said.
Failure to tackle inflation
That apart, Gandhi accused the two leaders of failing to tackle rising inflation. “Inflation is soaring, widening the gap between the rich and the poor. Billionaires like Ambani and Adani benefit under PM Modi. Have you ever heard Modi or Kejriwal criticise Adani? We do not want a nation that caters only to billionaires,” he said.
The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with the results to be announced on February 8.
