Amethi teacher murder
The victims, 35-year-old teacher Sunil Kumar, his wife Poonam Bharti and their two daughters, aged five and two, were shot dead in their home shortly before Navratri. Initial reports suggest that the assailants entered the house without forcing entry.
According to the police, Poonam Bharti had filed a complaint against a potential suspect Chandan Verma at the Raebareli Police Station on August 18. Superintendent Anup Singh said that the crime does not seem to be linked to robbery, raising concerns that it might be related to the earlier complaint, which involved the SC/ST Act.
Autopsy reveals grim details
After the murder, a team of doctors conducted post-mortem examinations. The reports revealed that Sunil suffered one gunshot wound, Poonam sustained two and both daughters were also fatally shot. Amethi’s Chief Medical Officer Anshuman Singh confirmed that the post-mortem results have been handed over to the police.
Sharma called for a quick and thorough investigation and he criticised the state government’s claims about law and order. “This is a horrifying crime. I have spoken to the district magistrate and urged a full investigation. If the state government is so confident in its law and order record, how can such horrific incidents still happen?” Sharma asked.
