New Delhi: Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma and debutants Saima Thakor and Tejal Hasabnis shined as India women registered a comfortable 59-run victory over New Zealand women in the first ODI match of the series in Ahmedabad. India now lead the three-match series 1-0. Left-arm spinner Radha displaying a leading act in bowling with figures of 4 for 42 while veteran Deepti scored 41 useful runs and also took a wicket.
Meanwhile, debutant pacer Saima Thakor inflicted the first blow in only the second ball of her international career, removing Suzie Bates (1) while another debutant Tejal Hasabnis scored 42 runs helping Smriti Mandhana bag her first victory as ODI captain of Indian team. Batting first, India scored 227 runs in 44.3 overs and were successful in restricting the opposition to 168/10 in 40.4 overs.
