New Delhi: Pune Police have released a photo of Dattatraya Ramdas Gade – the man accused of raping a 27-year-old woman inside a bus parked in the busy Swargate Bus Stand on Tuesday morning. The rape was committed 100 metres from a police station.
In a poster with the accused’s photo, the police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of Gade. The identity of the informer will be kept confidential. The poster added that a case number 59/2025 has been registered under section 64, 351(2) of BNS against the fugitive accused Gade, aged 37, who is a resident of Shirur, Pune.
He has a criminal history
According to reports, Gade has a criminal history, with at least six charges against him, including theft, robbery, and chain-snatching, in Pune and the neighbouring Ahilyanagar district. He has also been out on bail since 2019, as per news agency PTI.
Gade has now been on the run for over 48 hours since he committed the rape. The police have formed eight special teams to nab him and have interrogated his family members, including his brother, as well as known associates during the manhunt.
The rape took place between 5.45 am and 6 am on Tuesday. The young woman, a domestic help, was waiting to board a bus to her hometown in Satara district when Gade approached her. She told the police that he referred to her as ‘didi’ or ‘sister’.
