Puja Khedkar moves Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory bail in cheating case; hearing tomorrow

New Delhi: Former probationary Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Puja Khedkar has moved the Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case lodged against her on a complaint by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The Delhi Police has recently registered a cheating case against Khedkar on a complaint by the UPSC alleging she “fraudulently availed attempts beyond the permissible limit under the Examination Rules by faking her identity by way of changing her name, her father’s & mother’s name, her photograph/ signature, her email ID, mobile number and address.”

Khedkar’s plea is scheduled for hearing before Justice Subramonium Prasad on Friday.

Sessions court earlier refused to grant Khedkar anticipatory bail

A sessions court in the national capital refused to grant Khedkar anticipatory bail on August 1, saying that there are serious allegations against her which “require a thorough investigation”.

Khedkar had moved the trial court, saying that she faces “immediate threat of arrest” and sought anticipatory bail in the case.

The sessions court, however, rejected Khedkar’s plea for anticipatory bail and directed the Delhi Police to widen its probe and to also investigate if anyone from inside the UPSC helped Khedkar and also investigate if the benefits under OBC and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) quotas without entitlement have been availed by other persons also.

Khedkar also challenged UPSC press release cancelling her candidature

The UPSC cancelled Khedkar’s candidature and debarred her from future exams on on July 31,

Khedkar also moved the High Court challenging the press release by the UPSC stating that her candidature has been cancelled.

The UPSC on Wednesday told the High Court that it it would provide Khedkar a copy of its order cancelling her candidature within two days. Senior advocate Naresh Kaushik, who appeared for the UPSC, told the High Court that Khedkar’s cancellation order will be communicated to her by the UPSC within two days on her email id as well as her last known address.
