New Delhi: A YouTuber posted a picture of a plate of dal and chawal and said that she was proud to be a vegetarian in the caption. The post agitated many users. They were quick to call the woman out and express their opinion about the vegetarian diet.
Nalini Unagar, a content creator, shared an image of her vegetarian food on X and captioned it, “I’m proud to be a vegetarian. My plate is free from tears, cruelty and guilt.” The post immediately amassed several comments. Many slammed Unagar and asked her why should a person’s diet fuel the feeling of pride. Some called it the “self-righteousness attitude of vegetarians.” Some users highlighted the lack of protein on Unagar’s plate and opined that it was just a plate of carbs.
Woman shares picture of dal chawal & calls it cruelty-free; draws flak
Meanwhile, others questioned various aspects of the vegetarian diet and challenged the woman’s cruelty-free claims. One individual commented, “You still made plants to cry! Please don’t eat anything so that you can’t harm anyone.” Some users sided with the woman. However, others argued that there was nothing called a non-cruelty diet, whether vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
“Any food that we consume is out of cruelty. We are depriving animals, reptiles, and insects of their homes by cutting down trees and making forest lands as agricultural fields. So, the tears, guilt and cruelty are still involved irrespective of vegetarian or non-vegetarian,” said one.
