New Delhi: A shocking incident has come to light from Chhattisgarh where a pregnant woman, Anusha Gupta, and her physically-challenged parents were assaulted severely by her in-laws, the police said. Efforts are afoot to nab her husband. The incident occurred in Tinmini village of Pusaur block in Raigarh district. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media platform.
The incident occurred when Anusha and her husband, Madhusudan Gupta, who is an SSB jawan, were reportedly coming back to Chhattisgarh from Uttarakhand, where they had been staying after their marriage.
As per the police who quoted Anusha, Madhusudan abandoned his wife near Dongargarh during their journey on the Chhattisgarh Express, leaving her alone. The victim, along with her parents, went to her in-laws’ house in the village of Tenda Navapara.
It was here that her in-laws and some neighbours allegedly brutally assaulted the pregnant woman and her parents. They were kicked and blows were rained on her. They were also hit with slippers, the police said. A video of the assault has surfaced, showing the in-laws abusing and urging others to hit the three-month-pregnant daughter-in-law on her stomach.
The couple married in September last year
It was in September 2024 that Anusha, who is a nurse, had tied the nuptial knot with Madhusudan. Their marriage took place in an Arya Samaj ceremony in Bilaspur. After first meeting on Facebook, the couple married against the wishes of the man’s family. They had been living in Uttarakhand because of Madhusudan’s posting with the SSB there.
Recalling the attack, Anusha said that her mother-in-law and relatives dragged her out of a car, pinned her to the ground, and started beating her brutally. In tears, she recalled, “My mother-in-law began jumping on my stomach, and others encouraged her.” Her father was allegedly thrashed with a cricket bat, she said, adding that the abuse and assault went on for three hours.
They knew she was pregnant
She claimed that it was on the call of her in-laws that they were returning home. On the way, her husband allegedly left her and vanished. Anusha informed the railway helpline, and came to know from the ticket inspector that it was her husband’s brother who had booked the ticket. “My in-laws had called, saying they wanted to talk, so we went there on January 8. As soon as we reached, they dragged me out of the car. My husband had already told them I was pregnant, but despite that, they beat me brutally. They hit me with slippers, and sticks, and kicked me too,” she reportedly said.
Anusha and her mother have lodged a complaint at the Pusaur police station against Madhusudan’s parents and other relatives. Raigarh Additional SP Akash Markam said that a case has been registered against the accused persons.
