New Delhi: As the anticipated rush for the auspicious bathing day of Mauni Amavasya approaches on January 29, the Uttar Pradesh police have issued a comprehensive traffic advisory aimed at ensuring a smooth experience for the millions of devotees attending the Maha Kumbh Mela.
Mauni Amavasya also referred to as Maghi Amavasya, holds significant spiritual importance for Hindus and features a special bathing ritual that coincides with this year’s Mela.
In a post shared on microblogging site X, the Uttar Pradesh police emphasised their commitment to providing safe passage for all attendees. The advisory states that vehicles will not be permitted in the Mahakumbh area to prevent overcrowding and potential security issues, according to the Indian Express report.
Furthermore, the designated area has been declared a ‘no-VIP zone,’ requiring even the akharas (Hindu monastic orders) to follow specific entry schedules. To facilitate safe movement, pontoon bridges will operate with one-way traffic or be temporarily closed.
The traffic advisory outlines several parking arrangements to accommodate the influx of visitors, which experts anticipate could reach between 8 to 9 crore additional pilgrims on the day of Mauni Amavasya.
Here are the designated parking locations:
- Kali-2 Parking: Accessible from the Old GT Road next to Alopi Devi Temple via Baghambari Road.
- Nagavasuki Parking (Bakshi Dam): Located at the parking lot beneath the Nagavasuki ramp via Hasimpur Bridge from Balsan Square.
