The new Porsche 911 992.2 GTS comes with a hybrid powertrain but it is not the regular PHEV version that we have seen on other hybrid models. Porsche has now confirmed that the next generation Turbo will also be along the same lines featuring a hybrid motor used for extra boost and efficiency.
CFO Lutz Meschke said that the new Turbo will feature the hybrid setup that is found in the new GTS which means that there will be a 1.9 kWh battery pack which would be used to assist the engine and provide torque fill in areas where it is required. This will not be a PHEV and unlike many other hybrids, it will not be able to run on Hybrid power alone.
Since the hybrid compensates for the torque at lower RPMs, Porsche fitted the GTS engine with just one turbo instead of going to a twin-turbo setup. The GTS puts out 532 bhp and 609 Nm of torque so we can expect that the new Turbo will be another crazy machine when it comes to the putting down power.
The current generation Turbo S is one of the fastest accelerating cars that money can buy and it has been an enthusiast favourite due to it being the the fastest Porsche 911 in their lineup in a straight line.
Meschke also confirmed that there will also be a Carrera S model which will be offered without the hybrid engine just like the base Carrera but it will also come with a manual transmission. We expect it to be only a little more powerful than the previous version and most of the changes being cosmetic and in line with the new 992.2 generation.
Both these cars will be showcased next year with production starting from the second half of 2025. We also expect other models like the GT3 RS to debut next year and this generation is going to be quite exciting as the 992.2 generation will also get a new GT2 RS which we are overly excited for.
