New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday accused former Delhi chief minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal of making false allegations about the Haryana government mixing “poison” in the Yamuna river. Addressing a public meeting in the Kalakaji assembly constituency on Tuesday, Shah challenged Kejriwal to reveal the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) report that he referenced when making the claim.
“Kejriwal ji, winning and losing are part of the election process. Making an innocent face, you accused the Haryana government of mixing poison (in the Yamuna) and tried to scare the people of Delhi. Politics cannot get dirtier than this,” he charged.
Shah asks Kejriwal to name the alleged poison in Yamuna
Shah further questioned Kejriwal, asking him to name the alleged poison mixed into the Yamuna and to present the official order that supposedly stopped the “poisonous” water from entering Delhi. Shah criticised Kejriwal for attempting to scare the people of Delhi by falsely accusing the Haryana government, calling it the “dirtiest” kind of politics.
The row began when Kejriwal accused the Haryana government of intentionally releasing industrial waste into the Yamuna, claiming it was “poisoning” the water and threatening the lives of Delhi residents.
“During the Anna movement, Arvind Kejriwal had promised not to form a political party but later did so. He also sought Congress’s support, acquired a car and bungalow, and built a Rs 51 crore “Sheesh Mahal” with features like lights activated by clapping, remote-controlled curtains, and Italian marble—luxuries that he claimed he would not indulge in,” Shah said, addressing the crowd.
Shah attacks Kejriwal for not fulfilling promises
He also questioned how many schools or hospital beds could have been built with that money, criticising Kejriwal for not fulfilling his promises. He also alleged that Kejriwal was involved in a liquor scam, opening liquor shops near temples, gurdwaras, and schools.
Shah also assured that no welfare scheme for the poor would be stopped if the BJP government came to power, promising permanent homes for every slum dweller in the city.
Shah continued his criticism, labelling AAP leaders as liars and accusing Kejriwal of consistently failing to fulfil his promises. He urged Delhi voters to use the upcoming election on February 5 as an opportunity to “get rid of this ‘AAPda’” and ensure BJP’s victory.
The Union minister also criticised Congress, under Rahul and Sonia Gandhi’s leadership, of disrespecting Sanatan Dharma and urged its president Kharge not to mock Hindus. Shah assured that within five years, BJP would make Delhi the number one capital.
