New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday alleged that the Delhi Police prevented their efforts latest efforts to screen a documentary related to arrest of party leaders including Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.
While the police has not yet responded to allegations, they on Saturday said that the ruling party in Delhi did not seek permission to screen the documentary. The police also said that the same could not be allowed as Model Code of Conduct is enforced due to upcoming Assembly elections. The elections in Delhi will be held on February 5, results of which will be announced on February 8.
Screening was denied under which rule: Sanjay Singh
Speaking to reporters, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that the police denied permission to screen the documentary. “I want to ask the Election Commission under which rule the permission was denied. There would not be any public meeting, election campaigning or appeal for vote was to be made. I came alone for the press conference and screening of the documentary.” news agency PTI quoted him as saying.
‘BJP afraid of documentary’
Singh further claimed that he was verbally informed that the documentary screening was denied. The documentary is based on arrests of AAP leaders in corruption cases in the last two years. The documentary was to be screened at Pyarelal Bhawan near ITO. The police denied the screening because no permission was taken for the same. Earlier on Saturday, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP was afraid of the documentary as it contained BJP’s “secrets” and “conspiracies” in the arrest of AAP leaders.
