Jamui: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday interacted with a tribal couple at an exhibition stall showcasing products from tribal communities, marking the occasion of Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas in Jamui, Bihar. The couple, Dharmadurai and Ezhilarasi, hailing from the Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu, were part of a group that set up a stall at the event. As members of the respected Irula tribe, they had the honour of taking a selfie with the prime minister during the celebration.
PM Modi arrived in Jamui to commemorate ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ and pay tribute to the legendary tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda, marking the beginning of his 150th birth anniversary celebrations. The prime minister, dressed in a white kurta and churidar paired with an olive green ethnic jacket, was warmly received with a traditional dance performance. He also laid floral tributes and bowed in reverence before a statue of Birsa Munda in the city.
PM Modi unveils Rs 6,640 crore projects
During the event, the prime minister unveiled several development initiatives in Jamui and highlighted the government’s dedication to the welfare of tribal communities. The projects, valued at Rs 6,640 crore, are part of an effort to enhance infrastructure, offer training and create employment opportunities for youth, all aimed at the comprehensive development of tribal regions.
PM Modi celebrates Janjatiya Gaurav Divas
As part of the celebrations, PM Modi released a commemorative coin and postage stamp. Addressing the crowd, he reiterated the government’s focus on tribal empowerment and highlighted the launch of various schemes, including the Dharti Aaba, Janjatiya Gram and Utkarsh Abhiyan. These initiatives aim to transform more than 60,000 tribal villages across the country. In a light-hearted moment, the prime minister participated in a traditional dance and even tried playing a dho and further engaged with the performers at the event.
