New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turns 74 this year. Several leaders of his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and a large number of his followers celebrating his birthday since morning. Since assuming the office in 2014, a large number of projects have been launched that have benefited people from all sections of society, especially the poor. We bring you five projects launched during his tenure.
Jan Dhan Yojana
Having been launched on August 28, 2024, this project has completed ten years this year. Since its launch, close to over 53 crore accounts under the scheme, in which more than 2 lakh crore rupees were deposited. Notably, 55.6 percent of accounts were opened by women since its launch. Close to 66.6 percent of Jan Dhan accounts were opened in rural and semi-urban areas.
Skill India Mission
This scheme was launched in 2015, with PM Modi’s mission to make India a self-reliant country. The mission aims to boost employment opportunities. As per the data released by the government, the unemployment rate dipped to 6.5 percent in January 2021 as against 9.1% in December 2020. Apart from this, the employment rate surged to 37.9 percent in January 2021 as compared to 36.9 percent in December 2020.
Mission Swachh Bharat
This scheme was launched on October 2, 2014. The construction of toilets increased drastically since its launch. With an investment of more than Rs 1.4 lakh crore, more than 117 million toilets have been used since 2014. According to a study, districts with more than 30 percent of toilets observed a 5.3 dip in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) per thousand live births.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22, 2015, in the Haryana district of Panipat. The scheme not only helped in preventing the fall in the child sex ratio but also addressed women empowerment-related issues. Three ministries including the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health Family Welfare, and the Ministry of Human Resource Development are handling this programme together.
Prime Minister Ujjwala’s Plan
This scheme was launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG). The aim of this scheme was to make the LPG available to poor sections of society, many of whom were using traditional cooking fuels like coal. Firewood, and cow-dung cakes among others. The Centre has released an additional 75 lakh connections under the PMUY Scheme, taking the overall target to 10.35 crore.
