PM Modi speaks to US President Joe Biden, discusses Ukraine war and Bangladesh turmoil

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday had a telephonic conversation with US President Joe Biden and the two leaders spoke on a range of key global issues, including the raging Russia-Ukraine war and the turmoil in Bangladesh.

In a post on X, the prime minister wrote, “Spoke to @POTUS @JoeBiden on phone today. We had a detailed exchange of views on various regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine. I reiterated India’s full support for early return of peace and stability.”

“We also discussed the situation in Bangladesh and stressed on the need for early restoration of normalcy, and ensuring the safety and security of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh,” he pointed out in the post.

PM Modi commended President Biden’s strong commitment to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, which is based on shared values of democracy, rule of law, and robust people-to-people connections.

The two leaders reviewed the rapid progress made in bilateral ties and underlined that the India-US partnership aims to benefit the people of both nations as well as the entire humanity. PM Modi and Biden reaffirmed their dedication to continue boosting cooperation in multilateral forums, including the Quad.

While discussing the raging Russia-Ukraine war, PM Modi briefed US president Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine capital Kyiv, where he met Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The prime minister reiterated India’s consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for early return of peace and stability.

The two leaders also discussed the current situation in Bangladesh and raised concern over it. They laid stress on restoring law and order and to ensure the safety and security of the minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.
