New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday honoured Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, two iconic leaders of India’s history, on their birth anniversaries.
In a message shared on social media platform X, PM Modi praised Mahatma Gandhi, calling him an inspiration for generations. He emphasised that Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, and harmony continue to guide the people of India.

Gandhi, who is widely regarded as the father of the nation, played a key role in India’s struggle for independence and is celebrated globally for his steadfast commitment to peace and equality. PM Modi said, “On behalf of all countrymen, salutations to Pujya Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals based on truth, harmony and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen.”

PM Modi’s tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri
PM Modi also paid tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second prime minister, who was also born on October 2. Remembering Shastri’s dedication to the nation, Modi highlighted his contribution to India’s defence and agricultural sectors. Shastri’s famous slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer) reflects his focus on supporting the country’s soldiers and farmers. His simplicity, honesty, and humility earned him immense respect from people across India.
