PM Modi chairs council of ministers meet; women’s welfare, 100-day agenda, new policies discussed

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a key meeting with the Council of Ministers, focusing on pressing issues affecting women and the timely implementation of various government policies.

The five-hour meeting took place at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in Delhi and was part of the review process for the first 100 days of the BJP-led NDA government’s third term.

Meeting focused on measures to improve lives of women, farmers

The discussions highlighted significant measures aimed at improving the lives of women, the poor, youth, and farmers.

The meeting also included presentations from various government departments, updating progress on the 100-day agenda. Key topics included new infrastructure projects and social sector initiatives introduced since the government began its third term in June, as reported by PTI.

Infrastructure development was a major point of focus, with the government approving over Rs 2.30 lakh crore for projects such as new railway lines, ports, airports, and industrial smart cities. This is part of the broader goal of achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047.

PM Modi reviews projects worth Rs 76,000 crore in PRAGATI meeting

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi also chaired the 44th meeting of PRAGATI, an ICT-based platform designed to facilitate proactive governance and timely project implementation. This was the first PRAGATI meeting of PM Modi’s third term. The meeting reviewed seven major projects spanning 11 states and Union Territories, with a combined cost of Rs 76,500 crore.

PM Modi emphasised the importance of timely project completion, noting that delays not only increase costs but also deny the public the benefits of these projects. He introduced the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, aimed at protecting the environment while advancing development projects.

The Prime Minister reviewed the AMRUT 2.0 scheme and stressed the need for chief secretaries to personally oversee its implementation. He advised states to plan with future urban growth and needs in mind. Additionally, he discussed ongoing work related to the Jal Jeevan Mission and Mission Amrit Sarovar, both of which address water issues in urban and rural areas.

PM Modi highlighted that water is a fundamental human need and stressed the importance of addressing public grievances related to water projects effectively. He suggested involving women self-help groups in water project operations and ensuring proper training for youth in these roles. The Prime Minister also called for water resource surveys at the district level to ensure source sustainability.

As urban areas expand rapidly, PM Modi emphasised the need for reforms in urban governance, planning, transport, and municipal finance. He pointed out that initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme should be utilised to meet the increasing energy demands of cities.

PM Modi urged Chief Secretaries and government officials to continue focusing on the Mission Amrit Sarovar program, ensuring that water bodies are maintained and desilted as needed with community involvement.
