New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi won’t be visiting Pune on Thursday, where he was to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a slew of projects worth Rs 22,900 crore. His trip was cancelled keeping in view the torrential rains that have lashed the region.
Earlier, according to the itinerary, Modi was to inaugurate the new underground Metro corridor connecting the District Court to Swargate. The Prime Minister was also to lay the foundation stone for the extension of the metro corridor from Swargate to Katraj.
Besides these, PM Modi was to inaugurate the memorial at Bhide Wada, the place where Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule set up India’s first school for girls.
About the District Court-Swargate underground Metro corridor
The underground Metro corridor from Civil Court to Swargate would go a long way in offering seamless commute to lakhs of passengers. The corridor marks the completion of Pune Metro Rail Project (Phase-1). The cost of the underground corridor between District Court to Swargate is around Rs 1,810 crore. This development would be an important step in the city’s urban transport infrastructure and will give a major boost to the metro network.
About the Swargate-Katraj Metro extension
Swargate-Katraj Extension of Pune Metro Phase-1 is being developed at a cost of around Rs 2,950 crore. This southern extension of around 5.46 km is completely underground with three stations namely Market Yard, Padmavati and Katraj.
3 indigenously developed computers
In line with making India self-reliant in the field of supercomputing technology, PM Modi was to dedicate to the nation three PARAM Rudra supercomputers worth around Rs 130 crore. These have been developed indigenously under the National Supercomputing Mission. These supercomputers have been deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata to aid pioneering scientific research.
A high-performance computing system tailored for weather and climate research was also to be inaugurated. This project represents an investment of Rs 850 crore.
