New Delhi: Rohit Sharma’s poor run in Test cricket continued as the Indian captain was dismissed for a duck in the second Test match between India and New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
New Zealand bundled out for 259 runs in the first innings. Washington Sundar picked up seven wickets and Ravichandran Ashwin also took three wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma made a watchful start and looked to save their wickets. The Indian captain struggled against New Zealand pacers and Southee eventually got his wicket.
Rohit was completely squared up in defence as the ball moved away off the seam. Southee bowled a good length delivery around middle and off and Rohit looked to defend it from the crease but it nips away a touch. The ball goes past his edge and clips the top of the off stump.
This was the 14th time in international cricket Rohit has been dismissed by Southee. Cricket fans on social media were quick to point out how Rohit has struggled in Test cricket this year. The Indian captain played a couple of good knock against England earlier this year but mostly struggled to score runs against South Africa, Bangladesh, and now New Zealand.
Social media reactions on Rohit Sharma’s dismissal:
Please take retirement from test cricket. इतना निस्वार्थ इरादे वाले खिलाड़ी की भी जरूरत नहीं है कि टीम एक प्रकार से 10 खिलाड़ियों के साथ खेले। #RohithSharma #INDvsNZ https://t.co/OcIiT7p8sb
