New Delhi: Tahawwur Rana, a key conspirator in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, is expected to arrive at Palam Technical Airport in New Delhi at around 12 noon today from the US.
The National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has been closely monitoring the extradition along with other senior officials from the NIA and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Rana was flown from the US on a special plane at IST 7:10 pm on Wednesday. The plane will also take a halt before reaching Delhi, the details of it however has not been disclosed.
As per reports, after reaching the New Delhi Airport, the terror mastermind would be officially arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and will be incarcerated in Tihar Central Prison. Based on the recommendations of the US court, high-security arrangements have been made in the prison, discreetly.
A PTI report, quoting prison sources, stated that all preparations had been made for Rana’s stay. A special NIA court will conduct a trial of the 26/11 mastermind.
Tahhawur Rana is a 64-year-old, Pakistan-born Canadian national who is a key co-conspirator of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks with David Coleman Headly (Daood Gilani) a US citizen.
The terror mastermind is being extradited to India after the US Supreme Court rejected his application to evade the transfer. As per officials, a multi-agency team has been employed for successfully bring him to New Delhi.
