New Delhi: The bond between former Team India batters Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag is one for the ages because of their famous pairing as openers of the Indian team, ruling the hearts of fans across the world. As Sehwag turned 46 on Sunday, Tendulkar reminisced about his former batting partner, lavishing a unique birthday wish on him. It is worth noting that every year, both batters wish each other on their birthdays without fail.
For Sachin, the no. 46, which is the age Sehwag has walked into, was of some other significance as well. Taking into consideration the explosive batting mind and skillset of Sehwag, Sachin inculcated this similar fact in the birthday post on his social media.
“Happy 46th, Viru! 46 ka matlab hai 4 aur 6 ka perfect mix—bilkul tumhari batting ki tarah. Koi bhagne ki zarurat nahi. Tumhara saal bhi tumhare shots ki tarah dhamakedaar ho! (46 means the perfect mixture of four(s) and six(es), exactly like your batting (style). No need of running (between the wickets),” Sachin captioned a photo of both.

Sehwag’s batting style
Sachin, who is five years older than Sehwag, partnered with him for quite some time in Indian cricket, creating a barrage of memories while taking the bowlers to the cleaners. They are one of the most successful opening pairs Indian cricket has ever seen. Their flamboyance was such that with Sehwag’s power attacking and with Tendulkar’s composed and defiant batting, early pressure was built on the opponents.
Sachin highlighted a similar fact about Sehwag in his birthday post as Sehwag hardly bothered running between the wickets. Mostly taking the strike while facing the first ball of the game, Sehwag opened India’s tally with a boundary as also seen during the 2011 ODI World Cup. Sehwag was never of the “singles” or “doubles” mindset and mostly dealt in just boundaries – hitting fours and sixes to the deadliest bowlers of the world like a piece of cake. Tendulkar correlated those fours and sixes to his new age i.e. 46.
