Pauri: Narrow roads in Pauri have become a significant danger for the villagers, with many attributing them as a primary cause of accidents. This concern was tragically highlighted on Sunday when a bus accident in the Idwalsu area resulted in the loss of six lives and left 21 people injured.
The injured are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The residents of Pauri are urging the administration to prioritize road improvement projects to prevent future tragedies.
Long pending demand for road widening
The accident has left the local community not only saddened but also deeply angered. Residents have long been advocating for the widening of the roads, but their demands have yet to be met with concrete action. They argue that the poor condition and narrowness of the roads pose a constant risk of accidents. Sunday’s incident has only intensified these concerns, prompting the villagers to call for immediate steps towards road widening.
Road leading to KV poses risk for children
The atmosphere in the area is one of grief and frustration, especially for those who have lost family members in the accident. The villagers have repeatedly raised the issue of road widening to ensure safer travel, particularly on the narrow motorway near Kendriya Vidyalaya. They stress that the road’s current state is particularly hazardous for children traveling to Kendriya Vidyalaya, who are often forced to rely on small vehicles due to the lack of proper bus arrangements. They believe that widening and improving this road would allow larger buses to operate safely, reducing the risk of accidents.
No overloading in the bus
Pauri RTO Dwarika Prasad provided insights into the accident, stating that the bus involved was registered in 2012 and had all the necessary documents. A broken belt was found near the accident site, suggesting that the belt’s failure may have been the primary cause of the accident. The technical team’s report is still pending. The bus, a 30-seater, was carrying 28 passengers, indicating no possibility of overloading.
The bus met unfortunate tragedy on Sunday
This bus was enroute from Pauri to Srinagar Garhwal when the accident occurred. The district administration has confirmed the deaths of six individuals, while the 21 injured have been referred to Srinagar Base Hospital for advanced treatment.
Chief Minister Dhami has expressed deep sorrow over the incident
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed that financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh be provided to the families of those who lost their lives in the Pauri bus accident and Rs 1 lakh to each of the seriously injured. The Chief Minister received updates on the condition of the injured from the District Magistrate of Pauri and emphasized the need for proper treatment. He instructed that if any injured individuals need to be referred to a higher medical center, the District Magistrate should take immediate action. He also extended his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
