New Delhi: Paul Pogba has hit back at Wayne Rooney’s allegations that he and Jesse Lingard danced in the dressing room after Manchester United suffered defeat. Rooney had written a column back in 2021 for the Times giving a harsh view on the midfielder’s influence in the Red Devil’s change room.
Recently, the story has gained some attention after former United player Rio Ferdinand shared it on a podcast. In his column, Rooney recalled that he had walked into the United dressing room right after a defeat and had been in an ill temper over the loss, only to find Lingard and Pogba dancing to music. Rooney further said that he turned off the music and walked out with the speakers.
Paul Pogba’s reply to Wayne Rooney’s claim
Pogba has now responded to Rooney’s claims in his first interview since he failed a doping test. The Juventus star said that such tales need a “witness” who can confirm Rooney’s claims. Pogba noted that it was an improbable situation where he wasn’t going to be rebuked by Rooney or any other members of the United dressing for dancing after a defeat.

Pogba further said that he was always dedicated to the teams where he played and always tried his best to contribute towards the team’s progress. Earlier, Ferdinand had claimed that he called Rooney to complain about Pogba and Lingard “dancing” on social media to which the former United coach had expressed he had little control over.
Pogba played for United between 2009 to 2012 and then again from 2016 to 2022 before moving to Juventus. The 31-year-old failed a drug test last year and was initially banned for four years, but the ban has been reduced to just 18 months from the time he was suspended.
The World Cup winner will be allowed to resume playing from March 2025. Though Pogba has a deal with Juventus until 2026, it is likely that Bianconeri may terminate his contract before. While he has been linked with many clubs, Pogba maintains his interest in continuing to play for Juventus.
