New Delhi: In another shocking inflight incident, a flyer onboard Air India plane from Delhi to New York reportedly found a cockroach in her food and lodged a complaint about it on September 17. The passenger said the cockroach in the meal caused her two-year-old son to fall sick. In response, the airline said that it was probing the matter and will take appropriate action.
In a post on X, the passenger Suyesha Savant wrote: “Found a cockroach in the omelette served to me on the AI flight from Delhi to New York. My 2 year old finished more than half of it with me, when we found this. Suffered from food poisoning as a result (sic.).”

In its reply, the airline said it was aware about it. “Air India works with reputed caterers who supply to leading airlines globally and have stringent SOPs and multiple checks to ensure quality of meals served to our guests. We are concerned about the experience of the customer in the said instance and have taken it up with our catering service provider to investigate it further.” The airline also assured that it would take necessary actions to ensure that any such instances to do not recur in the future.
Blade in meal
In June this year, a passenger found a blade in his meal served on an Air India flight. A spokesperson for the airline blamed a vegetable processing machine for the same.
“Air India confirms that a foreign object was found in the meal of a guest aboard one of our flights. After investigation, it has been identified as coming from the vegetable processing machine used at the facilities of our catering partner,” Air India Chief Customer Experience Officer Rajesh Dogra had then said in a statement.
Some time back, a passenger travelling in the business-class of the airline’s New Delhi-Newark flight had alleged that he was served “uncooked” food onboard. He had also pointed out that seats were unclean, calling the journey as “no less than a nightmare”.
