New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Sunday made allegations against Parvesh Verma, BJP candidate from the New Delhi assembly seat, claiming that he hired goons to attack AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
Atishi said that a hardcore criminal was sent to harm Kejriwal, accusing Verma of keeping goons with him specifically to target the AAP leader. This statement came after AAP accused Verma’s supporters of throwing stones at Kejriwal’s convoy during his campaign.
Responding to these allegations, Parvesh Verma denied any involvement in the attack and shifted the focus on Kejriwal. Verma claimed that Kejriwal’s frustration over his declining popularity led him to make baseless accusations.
Verma said that Kejriwal, despite being the Chief Minister for 11 years, still had to campaign door-to-door, which showed that people were dissatisfied with him. Verma also brought up an incident where Kejriwal’s car allegedly hit three people during the campaign.
According to Verma, these people had no weapons and were simply trying to speak to Kejriwal, but his car hit them and Kejriwal allegedly signaled the driver to continue driving despite the incident. Verma said that the three people had given statements to the police regarding the incident, and he had also filed a complaint with Election Commission.
On Saturday evening, AAP shared a video on its social media platform X, accusing Parvesh Verma’s supporters of stone pelting on Arvind Kejriwal’s car. The video showed a group of people waving black flags at the car, and a stone was seen coming from the crowd.
Security personnel quickly intervened and the situation was brought under control. AAP claimed that the attackers were supporters of Parvesh Verma.
