New Delhi: A Special Investigation Team of the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch is likely to record statements of the two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs who have been iudergoing treatment at the RML Hospital after they were injured during a scuffle outside the Parliament building last week.
BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured on Thursday during a scuffle between the Opposition and the ruling outside the Parliament.
What is case against Rahul Gandhi?
An FIR was filed against Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at the Parliament Street Police Station following a complaint from BJP leaders. BJP MP Hemang Joshi, accompanied by party colleagues Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj, visited the Parliament Street Police Station and filed the complaint.
In their complaint, BJP alleged that Gandhi pushed these MPs. Reports say that so far Gandhi has not received copy of FIR against him. The cops are likely to launch their probe after handing over a copy to Gandhi.
Delhi Police Crime Branch investigating the case
The crime branch was handed over the case on Friday and according to the police sources a an SIT led by a DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) has been formed to study the matter and launch a probe.
As both the MPs were shifted to wards from ICU on Saturday, so now police team is preparing to record their statement today.
The police team is also expected to reach out to the Parliament secretariat to get access to CCTV footage of the incident.
Congress filed against BJP for misbehaving with Kharge
The Congress party has also filed a police complaint against BJP MPs for allegedly misbehaving with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge the same day at Parliament. According to multiple media reporsts, police are also likely to recreate the crime scene if it is needed during the investigation of the both the complaints.
The SIT formed to probe BJP allegations against Gandhi has two ACP-rank officers, 2 Inspectors and three sub-inspectors.
