Dehradun: Except Haridwar district, all tri-level panchayats in 12 districts will be run by the government-appointed administrators. The government has taken this decision due to the delay in the Panchayat elections in the state. In the state’s 12 districts, the government started the process of appointing administrators to run 7526 village panchayats on Wednesday.
Apart from the village panchayats, the tenure of 89 Kshetra Panchayats is coming to an end on November 29 and they will also be handed over to the administrators. The tenure of tri-level panchayats is fixed as five years. After the elections, the tenure of tri-level panchayats begins after its first meeting. Except Haridwar, the panchayat elections were held in the state in November 2019. Thus, their tenure of five years ends on Wednesday.
The tenure of district panchayats is set to end on December 2
The tenure of district panchayats is also set to end on December 2. The panchayat elections were supposed to be held 15 days before the end of the tenure of tri-level panchayats. The elections can be held later also. The administrator can be appointed to run the tri-level panchayats for a maximum period of six months. So, the panchayat elections are likely to be held soon.
Uttarakhand has a total 7832 village panchayats
The total number of village panchayats in the state is 7832, including 306 village panchayats of Haridwar district.
The government has issued a notification regarding the appointments of administrators to run the tri-level Panchayats. As per the notification, the district magistrates will appoint administrators to run the tri-level panchayats in their areas concerned. The administrators will immediately take charge of the tri-level panchayats.
The administrators will do only routine works
The administrators will do only routine works of the tri-level panchayats. They will have not right to make policy decisions. The government has also issued notification for the appointment of administrators to run the Kshetra panchayats. The state has a total 95 panchayats, including six in Haridwar district. The government is likely to issue notification for the appointment of administrators to run the district panchayats on November 30.
