Srinagar: Pakistani troops once again fired across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. This is the fourth straight night of ceasefire violation and unprovoked firing by the Pakistani troops. The firing this time was in the Poonch sector.
Army statement
In a statement released on Monday morning, the Army said, “During the night of 27-28 April 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts. Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively.”
Pakistan has been firing upon Indian posts for the past 3 days now. It started after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. At least 28 people, mostly tourists, were killed when gunmen shot them after determining their religion. The attack left people shocked.
Pakistan has violated ceasefire 3 times earlier. The last one being on the intervening night of April 25-26. These continuous violations on the border are a result of the Indian government’s strong response to the attack in Pahalgam. PM Narendra Modi, during a programme in Bihar warned terrorists that India will hunt down and punish the perpetrators of the Pahalgam violence.
The Indian government has also closed the Attari border and asked Pakistani nationals living in India to leave by May 1. Apart from this, in probably the sternest of measures, the government suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, stopping flow of water to the neighbouring country. Defence attaches from the Pakistan Embassy in India have also been asked to leave.
Pakistan in response has called for a “neutral” probe in the terror attack incident. The country wants Russia and China to lead the investigations.
