New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to let off opening batter Fakhar Zaman with just a reprimand and also include him in the central contracts list of PCB for the coming year. Zaman will get a call-up to the national white-ball squad as the country’s cricket board has decided to let him off with just a reprimand for his breach of the players code of conduct.
A Pakistan Cricket Board source confirmed to news agency PTI that a committee would be formed soon to look into the reply sent by the cricketer to the show cause notice to him over his tweet on star player Babar Azam. In the show cause notice sent to the cricketer, PCB asked Fakhar to submit a reply or face the consequences in form of facing disciplinary action.
Zaman dropped from central contracts list
The dashing left-handed batter was earlier dropped from the central contracts list for the 2024/25 and was then ignored for the series in Australia and Zimbabwe in the last week. The source close to the Pakistan board further said that the cricketer’s reply is apologetic and he has expressed remorse. Discussions between the PCB chairman, selectors and new skipper Mohammad Rizwan predict well for Zaman.
He said the selectors had however told Fakhar to focus on rehabilitating and getting over his knee problem before the white-ball series in South Africa in December. “He is most likely to be first included in the squad for the SA white ball matches and will then be added to the central contracts list,” the source added.
The selectors along with the management are of the opinion that Zaman’s services are still required for Pakistan in white-ball cricket and with the Champions Trophy an upcoming big ICC event, the ace player would work as an asset for the side.
