New Delhi: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in strongest words and said that perpetrators or organisations responsible for such deadly attack must be brought to justice. Releasing a a statement the council said that terrorism in all its form is a serious threat to humanity.
It also expressed its condolences to the families of the victims of the tragedy and wished speedy recovery for the injured. “The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, during which at least 26 people were killed and many more injured.”
‘Those responsible for the attack must be held responsible’
It added that those responsible for the incident must be held accountable and urged all states to cooperate in accordance to the international law. Noting that any act of terrorism is unjustifiable, it urged the states to combat terrorism in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law.
Earlier on Thursday, Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with officials a day after the Centre announced a number of steps against Pakistan including the suspension of the treaty, asking Pakistanis to leave the country within 24 hours among other steps. He also spoke to Chief Ministers asking that all Pakistanis in their states leave the country by stipulated day.
Pakistan, on the other hand also announced its decision to close its airspace to all Indian aircraft and suspended trade ties New Delhi, including through third countries. Reacting to India’s decision to suspend Indus Water Treaty it said that any such step would be considered as ‘act of war’.
