New Delhi: Hours after soldiers demolished the house of Pahalgam terror accused Adil Hussain Thoker in Guree village near Bijbehara of J&K’s Anantnag district, his mother appealed him to surrender, so that they can live in peace.
According to a Times of India report, Adil, a former student who went missing in 2018, is suspected of returning to India earlier this year after crossing into Pakistan on a study visa. He is said to have recently visited his family home before the security forces demolished the structure, citing security concerns.
A mother’s appeal to son
Shahzada Bano said the family lost contact with Adil after April 29, 2018, when he informed them he was going to Badgam for an examination.”We lodged a missing report three days later. Since then, we have had no information,” she said, adding, “If he is involved, the forces can act accordingly.” She also appealed her son to surrender, “so that we can live in peace”.
Adil’s father Waleem Mohammad Thoker, his brothers Jahir and Arshlam, and his cousins Julankar and Sajjad are currently in custody. Bano was detained for a day before being released.
NIA takes over probe
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally taken over the investigation into the April 23 attack in Baisaran valley of Pahalgam. NIA teams, supervised by senior officials, are examining eyewitness accounts, forensic evidence, and analysing entry and exit routes used by the attackers.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) ordered the transfer of the case to the NIA following the incident, which is the deadliest attacks on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
At least 26 people were killed after terrorists opened fire on a group of unsuspecting tourists in Pahalgam. Several others suffered injuries in the ghastly attack.
