Uttarkashi: A large number of tourists have arrived to celebrate the New Year at the tourist spots in Uttarkashi district, enjoying the clear weather and bright sunshine. Picturesque places like Kedarkantha, Harshil, and Dayara, which are gaining fame as “New Year Destinations,” are bustling with tourists from different parts of the country.

According to a press note released by the Uttarkashi information department, more than three thousand tourists arrived in Harshil, Dayara, and the Sankri area today, on 31 December. It is reported that more than five thousand tourists are staying at the major tourist spots in the district.

A large number of tourists arrived for trekking and camping

Large-scale preparations have been made by local hotel and dhaba operators and tourism businessmen to celebrate the New Year at tourist spots and the base camps of popular trekking routes. A large number of tourists have also arrived in the picturesque, snow-covered Kedarkantha and its base camp Sankri-Kotgaon area. Similarly, in the Dayara Bugyal area, apart from the camping sites of Goi and Bharnala, villages like Raithal and Barsu situated in its base camp are also witnessing a lot of tourist activity.

On the other hand, special preparations have been made for the celebration of the New Year, along with attractive decorations in Harshil town. Hotels and homestays in villages like Bagori and Dharali in the Harshil area are also full of tourists.

Special security arrangements by police and administration

In view of the increasing movement of tourists on New Year’s, the police and administration have made special security arrangements. Teams from the SDRF, police, and disaster management’s quick response squad have been sent to the tourist-heavy areas of Kedarkantha, Harshil, and Dayara. These teams are equipped with satellite phones, walkie-talkies, snow chains, searchlights, and other necessary equipment to monitor the movement of tourists and other arrangements in the snow-covered areas.

Snow cutters and blower machines for smooth roads

Additionally, necessary machinery and laborers have been deployed at sensitive spots to maintain smooth road conditions. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Dr. Meherban Singh Bisht has instructed that snow cutters and blower machines be kept ready in the Harshil area. He has also asked all departments and organizations to take prompt action to ensure the convenience, assistance, and safety of tourists and locals.
