New Delhi: More than 25,000 security personnel are to be deployed in the central, north, and New Delhi areas of the city for the new chief minister Rekha Gupta and her Cabinet’s oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday.
The grand event is scheduled to begin around 11.30 am at the sprawling ground. Senior BJP leaders, including chief ministers from states governed by the saffron party, are set to attend the event.
“More than 25,000 police personnel and over 15 companies of paramilitary forces will keep a strict vigil,” said an official to PTI on Wednesday. It was confirmed that strong security measures will be put in place to maintain law and order till the event concludes. The official pointed out that as per security plan, over 5,000 police personnel, along with paramilitary, will be stationed in and around the Ramlila Maidan. More than 2,500 strategic points where heavy deployment will be set up have been identified, he said.
Traffic and security plan in place
It is learnt that the Delhi Police is bracing up for the event. For the last two days, they have been making massive preparations. Coordinating traffic and parking around the venue of the grand event will prove challenging due to the anticipated influx of vehicles, police sources said. On Wednesday, Delhi Commissioner of Police Sanjay Arora took a round of the venue and took stock of the preparations. The Delhi Police is coordinating with other security agencies.
A proper traffic plan has been made and there will be some traffic diversions and restrictions around Ramlila Maidan. Emergency response teams have been formed. Several layers of barricades will be installed to ensure the safety and security of the dignitaries who have been invited for the ceremony.
Commandos, quick reaction teams, PCR vans, anti-sabotage units, and SWAT teams will be stationed at key strategic spots. Snipers will be deployed atop nearby high-rise buildings. AI-powered facial recognition CCTV cameras will monitor every corner of the area.
