The allegation of rape has added fuel to the fire, with the BJP highlighting the incident as further evidence of the alleged failure of the Trinamool Congress government to ensure the safety of women in the state.
New Delhi: A wave of anger and grief has swept through West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district following the alleged kidnapping and murder of a young girl who had left home to attend a coaching class.
The incident has sparked widespread protests and calls for justice, further escalating tensions already brewing over the alleged mishandling of a RG Kar rape and murder case.
The 19-year-old suspect, Mostakin Sardar, has been apprehended by police, but the anger of the residents is palpable with protests and a police station being vandalised and set ablaze. The girl’s family filed a missing report on Friday evening after she didn’t return home from her tuition. Her body was found in a field early Saturday morning, bearing multiple injuries.
While police await the results of the post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death and any potential sexual assault, Union Minister and State President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sukanta Majumdar asserted have already condemned the incident as a case of rape and murder, demanding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation.
He added that the Bengal CM has no control over the government resulting in such heinous crimes, days before the Durga Puja celebrations. After the continuation of these crimes in the state, he asserted, “Mamata Banerjee has no legal or moral right to hold on to her post”.
The allegation of rape has added fuel to the fire, with the BJP highlighting the incident as further evidence of the alleged failure of the Trinamool Congress government to ensure the safety of women in the state. They point to the recent controversy surrounding the alleged mishandling of the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which had already ignited public outrage against the West Bengal government.
The incident has sparked widespread calls for accountability and action, with protesters demanding justice for the victim and condemning the alleged rise in violence against women in the state. The situation remains tense, with a heavy police presence deployed to prevent further escalation.
