The Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) and its coalition partners have made a significant move by initiating a no-confidence motion against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the Lok Sabha. This action comes in the wake of the ongoing impasse in Parliament over the Manipur violence issue.
I.N.D.I.A. Coalition Initiates No-Confidence Motion against BJP-led Government
Leading the charge, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, representing the Kaliabor constituency in Assam and serving as the Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, formally submitted a notice for the no-confidence motion. The decision to proceed with this motion was reached during a meeting of the opposition coalition parties associated with I.N.D.I.A.
Congress leader Manickam Tagore also confirmed that a notice of no-confidence motion has been served at the Lok Sabha speaker’s office against the government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress Issues Whip to Ensure Success of No-Confidence Motion in Lok Sabha
To ensure the motion’s success, the Congress has issued a whip to its Lok Sabha MPs, instructing them to be present in Parliament on the designated day. It is worth noting that a similar no-confidence motion was attempted back in 2018 against the Modi government.
The opposition’s intention behind the no-confidence motion is to exert pressure on Prime Minister Modi and the government to address the concerns surrounding the Manipur issue. They believe that this motion will compel the government to engage in a discussion and provide clarity on the matter. Additionally, the opposition plans to continue challenging the government on the Manipur issue within the Rajya Sabha as well.
The no-confidence motion marks a significant moment in the ongoing political landscape, and it remains to be seen how the events will unfold in the Lok Sabha and its potential impact on the current government’s stability.
