New Delhi: As a big relief to earthquake-hit Myanmar, India has delivered 625 metric tonnes (MT) of Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) material under the Operation Brahma to support the neighbouring South Asian nation.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that so far six aircraft and five Indian Naval ships have delivered 625 MT of HADR material. India launched Operation Brahma in a way to show support with Search and Rescue (SAR), humanitarian aid, medical assistance, disaster relief after the country has been rocked by a catastrophic 7.7 magnitude earthquake, which hit Myanmar and Thailand on Friday (March 28).

The first division of the HADR material included 15 tonnes of supplies like tents, blankets, essential medicines, and food-supplied by NDRF and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This was sent through a C-130J aircraft, which landed in Yangaon on March 29, according to the MEA.
The MEA also mentioned that a second division of supplies were dispatched through two IAF C-130J aircraft, included 80 NDRF SAR equipment and relief material. While one of the aircraft carried 17 tonnes of personal protective equipment, search and communication equipment, and rescue equipment, the other aircraft carried five tonnes of HADR material, including gensets, hygiene, kits, food packets, essential medicines, kitchen sets, and blankets. These two aircrafts reached Naypyitaw on Sunday (March 30).
The third division also landed on March 30 with two IAF C-17 aircrafts carrying 60 tons of supplies, which had water sanitation and hygiene services. There were 118 members from the Indian Army Field Hospital Team.
The death toll in Myanmar because of the devastating earthquake has crossed 2700. According to Myanmar’s military leader Min Aung Hlaing, the toll has reached 2719 and is expected to cross 3000, as said in a televised address on Tuesday. Additionally, 4521 people have been injured, and 441 are missing.
