New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a three-day visit to the United States (US) starting today. The prime minister visited several times in the past too after assuming office. Apart from this, he visited the US in the 1990s when he was a Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh (RSS)’s Prascharak, and the BJP had not yet named him as the chief minister of Gujarat.
NRI living in the US shares his experience with PM Modi
Talking about his US visit in 1997, Gokul Kunnath, an NRI living in the country, said he was very surprised to see how simple and spartan man Narendra Modi was when he had gone to pick him up at the Atlanta Airport. Sharing some light of the trip, he said, “When he went to Atlanta airport, I went to pick him up in 1997. When somebody comes to the US, the person carries a lot of luggage. However, he said he only had one briefcase kind of luggage,” he said.
Kunnath added, “ I was surprised. I was thinking that we need to pick up the bags from the luggage claim. However, Modi said he did not carry any luggage. It was then that I realized how spartan his lifestyle is. Everything, of course, revealed that he lived like a typical Pracharak. Simple, humble, and very spartan.
PM Modi leaves for the US
