New Delhi: New Zealand skipper Tom Latham believes their 3-0 whitewash of India in an away series is one of his country’s best victories in Test history.
The Kiwis claimed the third Test by 25 runs at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium to compete a 3-0 series sweep, making it the first time that India lost all matches of a series having at least three Tests in 91 years.
New Zealand arrived in India after a 0-2 defeat in Sri Lanka in September but produced a stunning turnaround that bamboozled Rohit Sharma’s boys.
“It’s obviously a great moment for New Zealand cricket, probably one of New Zealand cricket’s greatest series wins I think,” said Latham of the win that condemned India to their first series loss in 12 years.
“Again, all we can do is keep playing cricket and keep playing our brand of cricket. We’ve felt a lot of support over the last couple of weeks, which is really special.
“It’s been a massive achievement, after the first (Test) it was obviously pretty special; the second one to win a series was even more special.
“We spoke about coming here and trying to adapt as much as we can and to be in this position (of winning) 3-0, it’s certainly a series that I’ll never forget.”
New Zealand now play at home against England in a three-match Test series that begins on November 28 in Christchurch followed by games in Wellington and Hamilton.
“We’ve got three more big games back home. We’ve got sell-out crowds in a couple of the games, which is all you can ask for from a cricketer’s point of view,” Latham said.
“We’ll obviously celebrate as a group together over tonight and the next couple of days before we head home. It’s certainly been an amazing series to be a part of… It will sink in a little bit more when we get home and once the dust settles a little bit.”
