Hyderabad: In a big step forward for the construction and infrastructure sector, Olectra Greentech Limited has launched its latest innovation – GFRP Rebar (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Rebar). This new product was introduced during the prestigious MEIL Budget Meet and is expected to bring major changes in how concrete structures are built.
The product was officially launched by MEIL Managing Director PV Krishna Reddy, in the presence of Olectra CMD KV Pradeep and MEIL Group Directors CH. Subbiah and B. Srinivas Reddy.
Made using ECR Glass and Epoxy Resin, the Olectra GFRP Rebar offers several benefits over traditional steel reinforcement. It has a tensile strength of 950–1100 MPa, which is almost twice as strong as steel. It is also four times lighter, making it easier to carry and transport.
In addition to strength, the GFRP Rebar is non-corrosive, non-magnetic, non-conductive, and water-resistant, making it suitable for tough environments like marine structures and industrial zones.
Olectra CMD KV Pradeep said, “We are happy to launch this revolutionary product. It marks Olectra’s entry into the construction industry. GFRP Rebar is cost-effective, low-maintenance, and increases the lifespan of structures. It can be used in industrial flooring, pavements, bridges, and marine projects.”
In 2024, India used around 50 million tons of steel rebar for construction. With GFRP Rebar now available, the country has a sustainable, stronger, and longer-lasting alternative to steel.
Wide range of uses
The Olectra GFRP Rebar can be used in:
- Bridge decks
- Pavements and industrial flooring
- Marine and coastal structures
- Precast construction
- Drainage and substation civil works
