New Delhi: In a significant move towards women’s empowerment, the Odisha Government has successfully disbursed Rs 5,000 to approximately 35 lakh women under the second phase of the Subhadra Yojana. This milestone was celebrated at an event held at Chau Ground in Baripada, where Chief Minister Mohan Majhi officially released the funds into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The occasion also saw the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.
The second phase specifically targeted women who were unable to receive benefits during the initial phase due to various reasons. To qualify for this disbursement, applicants needed to have submitted their applications by October 7. The initiative aims to ensure that no eligible woman is left behind as the state progresses in its commitment to economic empowerment.
Since its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, the Subhadra Yojana has garnered immense interest, with over one crore beneficiaries registered. During its inaugural phase, a staggering 2,500,011 women received the initial Rs 5,000 in their accounts, marking a substantial step forward in financial inclusion.
Under the Subhadra Yojana, each beneficiary is set to receive a total of Rs 10,000 annually, distributed in two instalments. These funds will be credited on significant occasions such as Raksha Bandhan and International Women’s Day (March 8). Over five years, each woman can expect to benefit from a total of Rs 50,000.
The ambitious scheme is part of a broader initiative by the Odisha Government, with an estimated outlay of Rs 55,825 crore earmarked for its implementation between the financial years 2024-25 and 2028-29.
