New Delhi: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered a judicial probe into the alleged physical torture of an Army officer and “sexual assault” of his fiancée at Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar.
The incident occurred when the couple had gone to file a complaint against anti-social elements who had waylaid them when they were coming back home in Bhubaneswar on September 14.
According to a post on X by Odisha CMO’s handle, “The said (judicial) inquiry will be presided over by Justice Chittaranjan Das. The Honourable Commission has been urged to submit its report within 60 days.”
Besides, the Orissa High Court has also been asked to expedite the criminal investigation into the matter under its direct supervision.
The state government is committed to taking stringent action against all individuals or officials who are found guilty, Majhi said. “The state government is fully concerned about the dignity, safety and rights of women,” the CMO statement said.
