Mumbai: Chhagan Bhujbal, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party’s Ajit Pawar faction, met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss his exclusion from the cabinet after the Mahayuti’s victory. Bhujbal said that he is disappointed and he also talked about the crucial role of OBCs in the Mahayuti’s success, saying that their support should be acknowledged and respected.
During the meeting, Fadnavis advised Bhujbal to wait, saying that a decision regarding his role would be made within the next 10 days. Bhujbal was accompanied by Sameer Bhujbal and their discussion with Fadnavis covered various social and political issues.
Fadnavis acknowledged the significance of OBC support in the Mahayuti’s victory. He said, “We must accept that the great victory was largely due to the support of OBCs.” He also requested Bhujbal to convey a message to OBC leaders. He indicating that he is considering the pros and cons of his decision.
Protest against Bhujbal’s exclusion
Bhujbal’s exclusion from the Maharashtra cabinet had sparked protests in Pune. His supporters said that it is an insult to Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Bhujbal felt humiliated by the NCP leadership’s decision. He criticised Ajit Pawar for sidelining senior members and favoyring a selected few.
NCP workers protested outside Ajit Pawar’s bungalow and they demanded the deputy chief minister’s post for Bhujbal. Deepak Mankar warned protesters against criticising Ajit Pawar. They citing Bhujbal’s opportunities and his son’s MLC position.
Bhujbal, who belongs to the OBC community, has been a prominent figure in Maharashtra politics, having served as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of various portfolios. The outcome of Fadnavis’ decision will likely have huge implications for Bhujbal’s political future.
